2023 SHOW REEL

Hi, you can call me April Yang.

Actually my given Chinese name is Xinzhen, but as borning in the spring of April, I chose to name myself April, inspired by the very month I cherish. April, a month that encapsulates the promise of renewal, warmth, and the gentle caress of a spring breeze. I aspire to extend this sentiment to others, to infuse their lives with the same sense of rejuvenation and the comforting embrace of a warm spring breeze.

In the realm of storytelling, I find my sanctuary in the director's chair, where I breathe life into ethereal companions—my cherished characters. With boundless enthusiasm, I step into their shoes, navigating through ever-evolving worlds and unraveling the intricate threads of human interaction, class dynamics, and the kaleidoscope of human behavior across eras. There are moments when I lose myself entirely, becoming a conduit to guide my audience on an enthralling odyssey through the captivating tapestry of diverse lives and the riveting stories of our world.

In my pursuit of this passion, I've nearly completed my bachelor's degree at NYU Shanghai, and I'm now venturing into the next stage, pursuing a master's in film. The philosophy of my life model, Leo Carax, resonates deeply with me: "I’ve been lucky in my encounters. You don’t make cinema without these sorts of encounters.

Now that I've shared a glimpse of my journey, are you ready to see me in action?
